Challenge
CyBourn’s previous brand felt outdated and misaligned with its rapid growth. It was overly technical, visually stagnant, and failed to communicate the company’s evolving capabilities or connect with broader audiences.
My Role
As the sole designer, I led the project from brand audit to final rollout, defining the visual identity, developing brand guidelines, and designing the full website experience.
Key responsibilities included:
Conducting a brand audit and defining design direction
Leading visual identity development from early concepts to final delivery
Building brand guidelines covering typography, color, and layout systems
Designing a UI kit and responsive website
Producing digital/print collateral for internal and external use
Brand Research & Insights
Stakeholder interviews and competitive analysis revealed three core gaps:
Too much technical jargon was making the messaging inaccessible to broader audiences. We needed a simpler, more direct voice.
The brand lacked a human layer it spoke to systems, but not to people. We focused on bringing in a more approachable tone.
The brand lacked a modern edge. We introduced a dark theme to convey more depth, along with stronger structure, and cleaner design to modernize the look.
These were some of the key takeaways that helped shape both the identity system and the web design experience shifting the brand from overly technical to more clear, current, and confident.
Design Process & Deliverables
We explored visual directions to refine CyBourn’s brand system, creating a more cohesive identity aligned with the company’s future.
Key elements of the visual system included:
A refined logo, where the original symbol was simplified for better scalability and balance, then paired with a modern word-mark for a stronger, unified lockup.
Strategic type pairings, a bold display font for headlines and a clean sans-serif for body copy enhanced hierarchy and readability across digital and print.
A refreshed palette that added depth and energy, shifting the brand away from a flat colors toward something more sophisticated and contemporary.
Custom illustrations that demystified cybersecurity services.
Micro-interactions that added flow and tactility without excess.
A modular layout system allowing the design to scale consistently across web, and print materials.
The website was completely redesigned to improve navigation, streamline content flow, and support a wider range of users. The messaging was refined to speak clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Solution
A bold, modern brand identity and web experience that feels aligned, forward-thinking, and ready to grow with CyBourn’s evolving mission, market presence, and long-term vision.
Results & Impact
The rebrand and website redesign delivered measurable improvements both internally and externally, the team saw:
90% of visitors spent more than one minute on the new website, indicating stronger initial engagement.
73.5% stayed beyond five minutes, exploring CyBourn's service offerings.
55% of visitors navigated to three or more pages, reflecting improved site structure and usability.
New contracts were secured following the brand rollout.
Retrospective
This was one of those projects that stretched me in the best way. Cybersecurity is full of complexity, and finding the right visual language was both a challenge and an opportunity.
One of the most valuable parts of the process was collaborating closely with a content strategist. It reminded me how powerful copy can be when paired with intentional design can make an idea land in a completely different way.
